Nigeria Wins 2026 African U18 Beach Volleyball Cup

On Thursday, August 13, Nigeria’s women’s beach volleyball team triumphed at the 2026 African U18 Beach Volleyball Development Cup held in Senegal, defeating the host team Senegal A with a score of 2-0, with set scores of 21-8 and 21-10. The Nigerian pair, Joy Lawrence and Ifechukwu Odoh, dominated the first set, quickly establishing control and leaving Senegal A struggling to respond.

Despite Senegal's efforts to rally in the second set, Nigeria maintained their dominance and secured the championship. After the victory, Nigeria’s coach, John Iwerima, praised the players for their resilience and commended the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) for its support.

He noted that the players' exposure from the tournament would be beneficial for their development. NVBF President Engineer Musa Nimrod also expressed optimism for the future of beach volleyball in Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of continued investment in youth competitions to strengthen senior teams.
