Nigeria Wins 35 Medals at Africa Zone 2 Championships

At the 2026 Africa Zone 2 Swimming Championships held in Dakar, Senegal, Nigeria achieved a remarkable performance, securing a total of 35 medals: 17 gold, 14 silver, and four bronze across various individual and relay events. The Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) commended both junior and senior swimmers, as well as the coaches and technical officials, for their outstanding results, marking the country's best performance at the competition in more than ten years.

NAqF President Lekan Fatodu expressed pride in the swimmers' achievements, emphasizing that the medal haul reflects the dedication and hard work of the athletes and their support teams. He noted that the success serves as motivation for junior swimmers ahead of the upcoming 2026 Youth Olympic Games, scheduled to take place in Dakar from October 30 to November 13.

Fatodu also stated that the championship allowed the federation to evaluate the progress of young swimmers and reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing development programs and preparing athletes for future international competitions.
