Nigeria Wins Seven Medals at African Archery Championships

At the 15th African Archery Championships held from July 21 to 26, 2023, in Oran, Algeria, Nigeria made history by winning a total of seven medals: one gold, five silver, and one bronze. The highlight was the women's barebow team, consisting of Faith Adekogbe, Mandu Eteidung, and Precious Fanny-Amun, who defeated Algeria 5-3 to claim Nigeria's first team title at the continental level.

Faith Adekogbe emerged as the top performer, winning three medals, including silver in the individual final against Algeria's Marwa Rahmoun and another silver in the mixed team event with Abubakar Usman. The men's barebow team, featuring Abdul Rahman Obasa, Abdulbasit Sanni, and Usman, also secured silver.

In the compound events, Nigeria added three more medals, with the men's team and mixed team both earning silver, and Yvonne Hareke Evans-Uhegbu winning bronze in the women's individual event. The Nigerian delegation, the largest ever sent to an African Championships, was led by Mohammed Baba Abdullahi and Augustine Obiefuna Chigbolu.
