Yakmut Advocates for Sustainable Olympic Programs for Athletes

Yakmut, serving as a technical observer at the Commonwealth Games, expressed the necessity for sustainable programs to guarantee peak performance for Nigerian athletes at the Olympics. He noted that this year's Commonwealth Games were limited to about 10 sports, which he described as an average edition, but he commended Glasgow for hosting the event again.

Yakmut highlighted the importance of strategic planning for the next Olympic Games, identifying five priority sports, including para sports and athletics, particularly sprints and throwing events. He stressed that selected athletes must receive full funding, comprehensive medical support, and social welfare to eliminate distractions.

Yakmut pointed out that athletes should peak at the Olympics rather than before, emphasizing the need for motivation through bonuses and improved welfare. He mentioned promising athletes like Chukwuebuka Enekwechi and Jessica, who have the potential to become Olympic medallists with proper support and technical supervision.
