Team Nigeria Eyes Medals at 2026 Commonwealth Games

At the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Team Nigeria is targeting a minimum of four medals in athletics. On Tuesday, reigning national 100m champion Favour Ashe will compete in the men’s 100m semi-finals alongside Fakorede Adekalu and Nigerian record holder Kayinsola Ajayi.

In the women’s 100m, African U-20 champion Miracle Ezechukwu, Blessing Ogundiran, and Rosemary Chukwuma have all advanced to the semi-finals. In field events, high jumper Temitope Adeshina will participate in the women’s high jump final, while Sade Olatoye has qualified for the women’s hammer throw final after placing 10th in Group A with a throw of 62.75m.

Ashe won Heat One of the men’s 100m with a time of 10.10 seconds, while Ezechukwu marked her Commonwealth Games debut by winning her heat in 11.32 seconds. The performances on the opening day were strong, setting a positive tone for Nigeria's athletics campaign.
