Funke Oshonaike Praises Team Nigeria at Glasgow Games

Funke Oshonaike, a licensed nurse and former table tennis athlete, served as a Sports Ambassador at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. In her interview, she expressed pride in Team Nigeria's performance, noting the athletes' passion and the improved kitting and equipment compared to past events.

Oshonaike highlighted funding as a major challenge for Nigerian sports, stating that with adequate financial support, Nigerian athletes could excel globally. She mentioned the congested conditions of the Games Village compared to her experience in 2014, where officials had separate accommodations.

Although she considered a return to competitive play, she ultimately decided to focus on mentoring younger athletes through her role in the Athletes’ Commission. At 52 years old, she affirmed her commitment to supporting the next generation of athletes and expressed hope for their improvement in table tennis.
