Three Charged with Terrorism and Kidnapping in Abuja

On January 10, 2026, three suspects, Abdulrazak Umar, Yunusa Musa, and Shamsu Adamu Sani, appeared in the Federal High Court in Abuja facing a 10-count charge related to terrorism and kidnapping. The prosecution alleges that the suspects conspired to kidnap schoolchildren and a teacher in the Orir Local Government Area, violating the Terrorism Prevention Prohibition Act of 2022.

They are accused of concealing information about the alleged mastermind behind the plot, despite having prior knowledge of it. The suspects are reportedly affiliated with the proscribed terrorist group Jama'atu Ansarul Muslimina Fi Biladi Sudan (Ansaru) and are also charged with engaging in illegal mining operations in the Chaza area of Suleja Local Government Area, Niger State, from 2024 to 2026 without authorization.

The Department of State Services (DSS) is conducting an ongoing investigation into the suspects' alleged criminal activities.
