Nigeria Inspects Electric Vehicle Assembly in Borno State

The Federal Ministry of Regional Development, led by Minister Mr. Abubakar Momoh, inspected the assembly of 10,000 electric vehicles (EVs) in Maiduguri, Borno State. The vehicles, including buses, tricycles, and taxis, will be distributed across six states in the North-East, accompanied by charging infrastructure.

The project is managed by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) following approval from the Federal Executive Council. Mr. Momoh emphasized the project's potential to create employment opportunities for youth during and after assembly.

He noted the interconnection between rural road projects and the electric vehicle initiative, highlighting that the vehicles will facilitate passenger transport and agricultural produce movement. The project is expected to be completed within 18 to 24 months.

Mr. Momoh commended the NEDC for its commitment to rebuilding the region post-insurgency. The Managing Director of NEDC, Mr. Muhammed Goni Alkali, stated that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to enhance the lives of people in the North-East.
