Nigeria Receives Final AGROW Programme Report for Agriculture

On Tuesday, the Nigerian Government received the final report from the National Technical Working Group regarding the World Bank-supported $500 million Sustainable Agricultural Value Chains for Growth (AGROW) Programme at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Vice President Kashim Shettima stated that the AGROW Programme aims to connect farmers with government planning, ensuring agricultural policies reflect the realities of the sector.

The programme was developed through consultations across 32 states, demonstrating subnational governments' commitment to agricultural development. Shettima noted that $355 million, or 71% of the funding, would be allocated to participating states for grassroots project delivery.

He acknowledged that this funding would not fully address challenges such as inadequate extension services and market access. Following the report's completion, Shettima commended the National Technical Working Group for their inclusive work and officially dissolved the committee.

He directed the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to oversee the implementation of the programme.
