Bauchi Declares Work-Free Day for Local Government Elections

The Bauchi State Government has declared Monday, August 17, 2026, a work-free day to facilitate residents' participation in the upcoming Local Government Council elections. This declaration was approved by the state governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, and applies to civil servants and public servants across Bauchi State.

The work-free day extends to local, state, and federal workers in the state, as well as employees in the banking sector, allowing them to exercise their civic responsibilities during the elections. This decision follows the announcement by the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) regarding the election date.

A statement signed by Mukhtar M. Gidado, Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Governor, indicated that the measure aims to ensure eligible citizens can vote without disruption from official duties.

Essential service workers are exempt from this arrangement. The government urged residents to participate peacefully and cooperate with security agencies and electoral officials to ensure a smooth electoral process.
