Sokoto Declares Work-Free Day for Voter Registration

The Sokoto State Government has officially declared Friday, July 24, 2026, a work-free day for civil servants to enable eligible workers to register as voters during the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This announcement was made by Abubakar Bawa, the Director-General of Media and Publicity at the Government House, Sokoto.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu stated that the initiative aims to provide civil servants with sufficient time to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in preparation for the 2027 general elections. He urged all eligible civil servants who have not yet registered to take advantage of this opportunity, reiterating that the PVC is essential for exercising their constitutional right to vote.

Aliyu also encouraged other eligible residents, particularly new voters, to utilize the extension for the CVR exercise, which concludes on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
