Tukur Mamu Re-Arraigned on Terrorism Charges in Abuja

Tukur Mamu was re-arraigned on amended terrorism charges on Monday, with Justice Moham Umar presiding over the Federal High Court in Abuja. Mamu, who was arrested on September 7, 2022, in Cairo, Egypt, pleaded not guilty to 17 counts, which include unlawful possession of firearms, money laundering, and supporting the Boko Haram terrorist group.

The prosecution, led by David Kasw from the Federal Ministry of Justice, filed the amended charges on May 26, which incorporated evidence already presented in court. Mamu's defense counsel, Johnson Usman, did not oppose the application to amend the charges.

The allegations against Mamu include receiving ransom payments totaling $120,000 on behalf of the terrorist group and possessing various currencies and firearms without valid licenses. The court has adjourned the matter until June 8 for continued cross-examination of witnesses, as the prosecution has already called seven witnesses in the ongoing trial.
