Ted Cruz Accuses Nigerian Officials of Terrorism Complicity

On Tuesday, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, the Chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, addressed the Senate floor, accusing Nigerian officials of being complicit in facilitating violence against Christians in Nigeria.

He expressed concern over the persistent killings of Christians despite assurances from the Nigerian government to address insecurity. Cruz criticized the continued practice of Sharia law in certain states and accused the federal government of failing to protect innocent citizens from terrorist attacks.

He cited that since 2009, over 50,000 Christians have been murdered in Nigeria, with 20,000 churches, schools, and religious institutions destroyed. Cruz emphasized that the complicity of Nigerian officials in these atrocities makes the violence unsurprising, attributing the ongoing jihadist violence to a lack of effective government intervention.
