Nigerian Onion Producers Suspend Exports to Ghana

Nigerian onion producers have halted exports to Ghana following reports of harassment and intimidation faced by traders at Kotoku Market in Accra. Sundai Maitasamu, a representative of the Nigerian Onion Producers and Marketers Association (NOPPMAN), stated that repeated incidents of interference have disrupted normal business activities and led to the seizure of trucks carrying onions belonging to Nigerian merchants.

This situation has been described as a violation of established trade practices, prompting NOPPMAN to announce an immediate suspension of onion exports to Ghana. Maitasamu emphasized that this decision was necessary to protect members from ongoing harassment and to prevent further economic losses.

The suspension will remain in effect until a safe and fair trading environment is guaranteed for Nigerian traders in Ghana. NOPPMAN's leadership has called on relevant authorities to investigate the incidents and facilitate dialogue between the parties involved.

Maitasamu also dismissed reports of armed men intercepting trucks as unfounded and inconsistent with the facts.
