Power Minister Tegbe Reports Electricity Improvements in Abuja

At the commissioning of a 3-megawatt solar hybrid power project at the University of Abuja, Power Minister Tegbe reported significant improvements in electricity supply, stating that areas previously without power for three months are now receiving up to 18 hours of electricity daily. He mentioned that some consumers requested he slow down the supply due to freezing issues in their freezers.

Tegbe acknowledged ongoing challenges in the power sector, including outdated infrastructure, with some facilities over 40 years old. He highlighted the issue of vandalism, revealing that three major transmission towers in Birnin Kebbi had been destroyed by vandals, impacting electricity supply to Kebbi State and Niger Republic.

In response, the Federal Government has formed a joint committee with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Nigeria Police Force, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to protect electricity assets. The solar project, featuring a 3.3-megawatt solar array, aims to benefit over 58,726 students by powering essential university facilities.
