Lawyer Challenges Police on Recording Officers for Skits

Legal practitioner Inibehe Effiong has countered Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu's warning against Nigerians recording police officers for social media skits. Disu described the practice as "very, very demoralising" for police officers, expressing concern not about the right to record but about using officers as content for social media.

Effiong, during an interview on Channels Television, questioned the definition of content creation, suggesting that it could apply to the police, which operates various platforms, including social media handles, a website, and a radio station. He emphasized the need to clarify whether Disu's warning was aimed specifically at skit makers and entertainers.

Effiong also raised concerns about why the police are apprehensive about citizens recording officers while performing their duties, citing Disu's mention of officers being filmed while eating as part of his concerns.
