TCN Secures N1.87tn to Enhance Nigeria's Electricity Grid

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully attracted more than $1.4 billion in loans and grants, amounting to approximately N1.87 trillion, from multilateral development partners to expand the country's electricity transmission network. This funding, mobilized primarily within the past year, has enabled TCN to increase its transmission wheeling capacity to over 8,700 megawatts (MW).

Ajiboye Oluwagbenga, TCN's Executive Director of the Transmission Service Provider, announced this development during a training workshop in Keffi. He noted that the financing was secured through collaborations with major international institutions, including the World Bank and the African Development Bank.

Despite these improvements, Oluwagbenga acknowledged ongoing challenges in electricity delivery, particularly due to some electricity distribution companies' (Discos) reluctance to accept available power. TCN continues to invest in transmission infrastructure to alleviate bottlenecks in Nigeria's electricity supply industry.
