TCN Enhances Yobe Power Supply with New Transformer

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully commissioned a new 60MVA transformer at the Damaturu transmission substation in Yobe State, raising the substation's total capacity from 120MVA to 180MVA. This initiative is part of TCN's ongoing investment program funded by its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), aimed at expanding and reinforcing Nigeria's electricity transmission network.

According to Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, the additional capacity will enhance operational flexibility and reliability, providing redundancy during maintenance and unexpected outages. The upgrade is expected to meet the growing electricity demand in the area and improve the reliability and efficiency of bulk power transmission, supporting stable electricity supply to homes, businesses, and critical public institutions.

The project also aims to bolster the services delivered by the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) to its customers in Damaturu, Buni Yadi, Babangida, and the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital.
