Nigeria's Federal Ministry of Education has completed a digital overhaul of its academic certificate verification system, enabling applicants to submit and authenticate educational credentials entirely online. The ministry announced the shift on Tuesday, September 8, eliminating the previous requirement for in-person visits to process document authentication.

Education Minister Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa presented the change as a significant advancement in the government's broader push toward digital governance. Under the new arrangement, individuals seeking certificate evaluation can access a dedicated online platform operated by the ministry to complete the entire verification workflow.

The automation removes intermediaries and physical queues that previously characterised the credential authentication process. Officials framed the reform as improving both efficiency and transparency in how the ministry handles educational records across Nigeria.

The digital platform targets multiple audiences, including Nigerians within the country and those abroad who require official verification of their academic qualifications. This accessibility enhancement addresses a longstanding friction point for citizens needing authenticated certificates for employment, further education, or immigration purposes.
