Jimoh Ibrahim Becomes Chair of UN Peacekeeping Committee

Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, has taken over the chairmanship of the United Nations Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations (C-34) from Canada. Ibrahim committed to leading the committee with transparency, accountability, and a focus on civilian protection.

He acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing chairman and emphasized the committee's role in strengthening international peace and security, particularly against terrorism. Ibrahim's leadership of C-34, alongside his role as chairman of the UN Fifth Committee, underscores Nigeria's significant position within the UN, especially given its historical contributions to peacekeeping.

His appointment comes within his first 100 days in office, following his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Ibrahim, an alumnus of prestigious universities, aims to build on the committee's progress and ensure effective collaboration among member states, addressing global security challenges and the future of UN peacekeeping.
