NIMASA's Commitment to Green Shipping and Decarbonisation

Dr. Dayo Mobereola, the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), reaffirmed the agency's commitment to advancing maritime decarbonisation and promoting green shipping practices.

This statement was made during a strategic engagement with Dr. Eugene Itua, the Chief Executive Officer of Natural Eco Capital Limited.

The discussions centered on initiatives aimed at accelerating Nigeria’s transition to a cleaner and more environmentally sustainable maritime sector. Dr.

Itua presented the Nigerian Green Shipping Excellence Programme (NGSEP) and the Green Maritime Recognition Scheme (GMRS), which are designed to drive maritime decarbonisation, encourage the adoption of cleaner technologies, attract climate investments, and position Nigeria as a regional leader in sustainable shipping. Mobereola commended these initiatives, emphasizing the importance of partnerships with the private sector and other stakeholders to achieve Nigeria’s environmental sustainability objectives.

He highlighted that innovative and collaborative approaches are essential for addressing climate change and enhancing the competitiveness of Nigeria’s maritime industry.
