NIMASA Focuses on Youth for Blue Economy Growth

During the 10th Taiwo Afolabi Annual Maritime Lecture at the University of Lagos, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), reaffirmed the central role of Nigerian youths in the country’s Marine and Blue Economy Policy.

He stated that Nigeria's goal to become Africa's Blue Giant will be propelled by the younger generation. Represented by Mrs.

Nneka Obianyor, the Director of Reforms Coordination and Blue Economy, Mobereola commended SIFAX Group for its decade-long initiative. He highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Blue Economy Agenda as crucial for economic diversification and noted that the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, has tasked NIMASA with equipping young Nigerians with necessary skills and opportunities.

Key initiatives mentioned include the Nigerian Seafarers Development Programme (NSDP), the Blue Economy Accelerator Initiative, skills acquisition centres across the six geopolitical zones, and the establishment of Institute of Maritime Studies in select Nigerian universities. Additionally, NIMASA engaged students from the University of Lagos in a knowledge-sharing session led by Ms.
