NIMC Cracks Down on Illegal NIN Enrolment Centres
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has intensified its efforts to combat illegal National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment centres, leading to numerous arrests in Abuja and Gwagwalada. The operations were carried out by NIMC's Inspectorate Compliance and Enforcement Unit (ICEU), which seized illegal enrolment equipment.
In a statement issued on Monday, NIMC emphasized its commitment to eradicating unauthorized enrolment activities and unethical practices, thereby safeguarding the integrity, security, and credibility of Nigeria's National Identity Management System. Dr Kayode Adegoke, the commission's spokesman, noted that many issues faced by NIN holders arise from bypassing official enrolment procedures.
NIMC reiterated that enrolment should only occur at approved centres and that data modifications can be done through self-service options. Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, the Director-General/CEO, reaffirmed NIMC's zero tolerance for extortion and unethical conduct, urging all NIN applicants and holders to utilize only NIMC-approved channels for enrolment and related services.
