NiMet DG Professor Anosike Wins Leadership Award in Ghana

Professor Charles Anosike, the Director General of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), was honored with the 2026 African Leadership Person of the Year Award during a ceremony held in Accra, Ghana, over the weekend. This recognition was part of a high-level event at the African Leadership Conference, themed "Reimagining African Governance to Develop New Pathways for Economic Transformation." Anosike was acknowledged for his significant contributions to transforming leadership at NiMet, particularly in strengthening climate services, advancing early warning systems, and enhancing aviation meteorological standards.

The award ceremony brought together influential figures, including former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama, who received the African Year President award, and Namibian Minister Netumbo Nandi Ndaitwah, who was recognized as the African Political Leader of the Year. Anosike's leadership has notably improved NiMet's operational efficiency and service delivery, embedding transparency and data-driven systems into its core processes, affirming the agency's credibility and expanding its role in advancing climate intelligence and national resilience.
