NiMet and University of Abuja Launch Smart Climate Project

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the University of Abuja have initiated a partnership focused on a Smart Climate Project. This collaboration, led by NiMet's Director General, Prof.

Charles Anosike, and the University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, aims to deepen discussions on mutual interests, particularly in joint research initiatives.

The project will explore the deployment of remote sensors and Geographic Information System (GIS) tools to develop climate data that can be utilized across academic and industrial sectors. Prof.

Anosike emphasized the importance of maintaining weather stations to support teaching and research in climate services. NiMet has previously supported the development of weather stations at the university, and the agency aims to establish new stations to enhance climate information access.

Both institutions agreed to form a joint technical team to define priority areas for collaboration and oversee the implementation of agreed initiatives.
