NiMet and NCCC Strengthen Climate Collaboration in Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) have enhanced their collaboration on climate services, climate data management, and national climate resilience initiatives. During a courtesy visit, Prof Charles Anosike, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, underscored the agency's role as the custodian of Nigeria’s long-term meteorological records.

He highlighted the necessity for closer collaboration in co-developing climate projections and strengthening early warning systems. The partnership aims to standardize climate data and conduct joint research to support evidence-based climate policies.

Prof Anosike noted that quality meteorological data is essential for accessing international climate finance and proposed exploring joint funding proposals for climate resilience projects. Dr Tenioye Majekodunmi, the Director-General of NCCC, commended NiMet's contributions and both institutions agreed to formalize their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote sustained collaboration in various climate-related areas.
