NiMet and NCCC to Sign MoU on Climate Collaboration

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) are set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen their collaboration on climate services, data management, and national climate resilience initiatives. This decision was announced following a courtesy visit by NiMet's Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Charles Anosike, to NCCC's Director-General, Tenioye Majekodunmi.

Anosike emphasized NiMet's role as the custodian of Nigeria's long-term meteorological records, which are crucial for climate trend analysis and risk assessment. He advocated for closer cooperation in developing climate projections, enhancing early warning systems, and conducting joint research to support evidence-based climate policies.

Anosike also noted that quality meteorological data is essential for Nigeria to access international climate finance. Both organizations agreed to formalize their partnership to promote sustained collaboration in various areas, reaffirming their commitment to advancing national climate policy and improving climate services.
