NIPOST Imposes $80 Prepaid Customs Duty on US Shipments, Effective August 29

NIPOST has introduced an $80 prepaid customs duty on shipments bound for the US, effective August 29, 2025. The Nigerian Postal Service announced that all parcels and letters sent to the United States will attract this prepaid custom duty, equivalent to 80 Naira, upon acceptance in Nigeria.

This decision follows a policy change due to an Executive Order suspending the De Minimis treatment for countries under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. NIPOST warned that the new rule could disrupt global logistics and lead to delivery delays, prompting the agency to engage with international partners to mitigate potential service disruptions and ensure quality delivery standards.
