Nnaji Arrested for Alleged Certificate Forgery in Nigeria

Geoffrei Uch Nnaji, who resigned from his position as Minister of Science and Technology in October 2025, was arrested at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). This arrest followed a bench warrant issued by a Federal High Court due to Nnaji's failure to honor an invitation for an investigative interview regarding allegations of certificate forgery.

Nnaji is accused of presenting a forged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate and a first-degree certificate, despite claiming to have graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1975. The ICPC's actions are viewed as crucial for President Bolatinubu's administration, which has committed to upholding the rule of law and combating corruption.

If found guilty, Nnaji could face significant penalties under Nigeria's criminal code, with potential imprisonment ranging from three to fourteen years for forgery.
