Bishops Urge Tinubu to Address Nnamdi Kanu's Detention

During the 2026 Synod held in Abuja, the Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) urged Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, to engage President Bola Ahmed Tinubu concerning the ongoing detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The appeal was made on Wednesday, with Akume present as a special guest alongside senior church leaders.

Archbishop Robert Imoh, representing the South-East zone, expressed regional support for the Tinubu administration while making an emotional plea to Akume. The CBCN, which comprises over 950 bishops across Nigeria and operates in 51 countries, received a mandate from representatives of all six geopolitical zones to address national issues.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, also spoke at the synod, encouraging church leaders to promote peace and unity as Nigeria approaches elections.
