Kanu's Lawyer Accuses FG of Delaying Bail Hearing

Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, the lawyer for Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, has accused the Federal Government of delaying proceedings in Kanu's appeal. On Tuesday, Ejimakor called for the Court of Appeal to schedule a hearing for Kanu's pending bail application without waiting for the government's response, which he claims is overdue.

He stated that the prosecution has not filed its reply brief to Kanu's legal team's submissions, arguing that this delay should not hinder the court from considering Kanu's bail. Kanu's case is currently at the appellate stage following his conviction on terrorism-related charges and life imprisonment by Justice James Omotosho in November 2025.

Kanu's legal team initiated the appeal process in February 2026, and earlier in August, Ejimakor confirmed that the Federal Government decided not to pursue a cross-appeal for the death penalty against Kanu.
