Seplat Energy Launches Free Eye Care Initiative in Akwa Ibom

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and Seplat Energy Joint Venture are sponsoring a free eye care programme, the Eye Can See programme, in Akwa Ibom, aiming to assist over 6,000 people from Uyo, Eket, and Ibeno. This initiative, the first of its kind in the state, includes eye screenings, treatments, reading glasses, and sight-restoring surgeries.
Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, Chairman of Seplat Energy, stated that this programme fulfills a commitment made to the Akwa Ibom State Government following Seplat's acquisition of Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited assets. He emphasized the importance of social investment in community development.
Effiong Okon, CEO of Seplat Energy, noted that the programme has been active since 2012, screening 130,771 patients and performing 5,350 surgeries over the years. Governor Umo Eno, represented by Deputy Governor Senator Akon Eyakenyi, praised the initiative as a timely intervention for those affected by visual impairment, particularly due to cataracts.
