No Data Lost in FMBN Fire, Minister Assures Nigerians

On August 1, 2026, a fire incident affected a section of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria’s (FMBN) headquarters in Abuja. Engr. Muttaqa Rabe Darma, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, inspected the site on August 3, 2026, and assured Nigerians that no critical records or customer data were lost due to the fire.

The fire was contained to a section of the second floor, and preliminary findings suggest it was likely caused by an electrical fault, with investigations ongoing. The Minister stated that anyone found negligent in their duties would be held accountable following the investigations.

He praised FMBN's digital transformation, highlighting that the Bank's cloud-based data backup system protected critical records and ensured uninterrupted access to customer information despite the incident. Darma confirmed that the Bank remained fully operational and encouraged Nigerians to continue using FMBN services.
