Former Senator Onwe Denies ₦25 Million Consultancy Claim

Emmanuel Uzor Onwe, a former Senator in Ebonyi State, publicly refuted allegations that he received ₦25 million from Governor Francis Nwifuru for media consultancy services. The claims originated from social critic Chika Nwoba, who asserted that Onwe and six others were appointed as media consultants for the upcoming general election.

During the Ebonyi NUJ Press Week, Onwe clarified that he was not employed by the Ebonyi State government and had not received any payment for consultancy work. He emphasized that his actions were driven by personal initiative, stating, “Nobody paid me to do that, nobody asked me to do it.” Onwe also acknowledged the governor's achievements in education while critiquing certain government priorities, such as the proposal to operate a commercial airline, arguing that resources should be allocated to health and education instead.
