NOC and NSC Advocate for Athlete Welfare in Nigeria

The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and the National Sports Commission (NSC) convened a seminar in Abuja aimed at promoting good governance, accountability, and athlete welfare within Nigerian sports. NOC President Engineer Habu Gumel stated that the seminar was designed to equip sports federation leaders with essential knowledge to enhance their administration and support Nigerian athletes.

He emphasized that the insights gained would be discussed at board meetings within the federations for implementation. Gumel noted that this seminar is part of a broader initiative by the NOC during the current Olympic cycle, which includes various seminars on topics such as women in sports and sports medicine.

NSC Director-General Bukola Olopade underscored the importance of collaboration between the NOC and NSC, citing it as a factor in achieving peaceful federation elections and resolving conflicts, such as those within the Nigeria Basketball Federation. He reiterated that athlete welfare should be central to decision-making in sports administration.
