Veteran Nollywood Actor Taiwo Hassan ‘Ogogo’ Dies at 66

Taiwo Hassan, a veteran Nollywood actor popularly known as Ogogo, died at the age of 66 on Sunday after a prolonged battle with stage-four cancer. His family announced his passing on social media, which shocked the Nigerian entertainment industry and his fans.

Just days before his death, his daughters made emotional appeals regarding his declining health. Despite efforts from his family and medical teams to seek advanced treatment, he succumbed to the illness.

In a show of solidarity, over 100 actors, filmmakers, and religious leaders gathered for a prayer session at the BOS Hall in Ikeja, Lagos, led by industry veterans including Yinka Quadri and TAMPAN National President Bolaji “Mr Latin” Amusan. Hassan, born on October 31, 1959, in Ilaro, Ogun State, transitioned to acting in 1981 after a decade as an automobile mechanic.

He became a prominent figure in Yoruba home videos and mainstream Nollywood, with numerous acclaimed performances. Tributes have begun to pour in as he is expected to be buried according to Islamic rites.
