Nollywood Mourns Taiwo Hassan (Ogogo) After His Death

Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, a respected veteran of the Nigerian film industry, passed away on August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 after a battle with stage four cancer. His remains were brought to his hometown in Ilaro, Ogun State, for burial on Monday.

The burial was attended by fellow Nollywood veterans, including Jide Kosoko, Yinka Quadri, and Fathia Balogun, who expressed their grief over the loss of their longtime colleague and friend. Yinka Quadri was particularly affected, breaking down in tears during the ceremony, highlighting the deep bond he shared with Ogogo, as they both had a decades-long friendship and were born in the same year.

Prior to his death, Ogogo's daughter, Taiwo, had appealed for urgent medical assistance, revealing that hospitals had refused to treat him and that he was declared unfit to travel abroad for treatment despite having secured an Indian visa. Ogogo was known for his significant contributions to Yoruba-language cinema as an actor, filmmaker, and theatre practitioner.
