President Tinubu Mourns Nollywood Veteran Taiwo Hassan

President Bola Tinubu expressed his condolences following the death of veteran Nollywood actor, filmmaker, and screenwriter Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, who passed away at the age of 66. In a condolence message released on August 24 by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described Ogogo as a distinguished actor whose career significantly impacted Yoruba-language theatre and Nigerian cinema over several decades.

The President commended Ogogo’s unique acting style, powerful screen presence, and commitment to his craft, noting that he entertained generations of Nigerians while promoting Yoruba culture and Nigeria's diverse heritage. Tinubu emphasized that Ogogo's body of work would remain a vital part of Nigeria’s cultural history and acknowledged the late actor's influence on younger artists and his lasting contributions to the creative industry.

He referred to Ogogo as a gifted artist who utilized his talent to narrate Nigerian stories and preserve cultural heritage, marking his death as a significant loss to his family, the Yoruba film industry, Nollywood, and the broader Nigerian creative community.
