North-East Nigeria Leads AfDB Project Beneficiaries in 2025

According to a report published in March 2025, North-East Nigeria has emerged as the largest beneficiary of the African Development Bank's (AfDB) projects, with a total project value of $259.5 million aimed at delivering social services and livelihood support across Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, and Taraba states. The AfDB's Nigeria portfolio increased to $6.2 billion across 53 operations covering 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, focusing on sectors such as transport, energy, water, agriculture, health, education, and private sector support.

In contrast, the South-East region, driven largely by the Ebonyi State ring road project, received $29.6 million of its approved $115 million for the Abia State integrated infrastructure project, which saw only $0.13 million disbursed. The report indicates that the South-East faced significant delays and challenges in project implementation, highlighting a stark contrast in project delivery effectiveness compared to the North-East.
