ADC Group Rejects Same-Faith Ticket Ideology in Nigeria

The Grassroots Mobilisation Network (GMN), a support group within the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), issued a statement on Tuesday urging Nigerians to reject the ideology of Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, a cleric from Jos, Plateau State, who advocated for a same-faith presidential ticket. GMN's Secretary General, Mallam Usman Bala Idris, emphasized that Northern Nigeria requires good governance based on justice rather than a religious ticket.

The group condemned Jingir's remarks made in Kano, where he claimed Nigeria was a Muslim country and asserted Muslim superiority over Christians. GMN stated that Jingir's views do not represent Islam and called for religious leaders to avoid comments that could disrupt national peace.

They criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for promoting a same-faith ticket, labeling it a threat to Nigeria's unity. GMN urged voters to prioritize competence over religious identity and called on the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and the Christian Association of Nigeria to caution clerics against hate speech.
