Northern Governors Launch ₦1bn Security Trust Fund

On Wednesday, Muhammadu Yahaya, the Governor of Gombe State and Chairman of the Northern State Governors Forum, announced the establishment of the Northern Nigeria Security Trust Fund during a meeting in Kaduna. This initiative is a significant step to confront the escalating security crisis in Northern Nigeria, which includes threats from banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and drug abuse.

The governors agreed to contribute ₦1 billion monthly for 12 months to finance the trust fund. Yahaya emphasized that the fund is designed to complement, not replace, existing national security structures and aims to strengthen partnerships with federal security agencies.

The board of trustees for the fund has been carefully selected from across the 19 northern states, focusing on integrity and professional experience. Yahaya urged all governors to promptly fulfill their financial commitments to ensure the fund's success in addressing the urgent security challenges facing the region.
