Northern Governors Launch Security Trust Fund Board

The Northern State Governor Forum inaugurated the board of the Northern Nigeria Security Trust Fund on Wednesday at Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House in Kaduna. The board is co-chaired by former Chief of Defence Staff Gen.

Martin Luther Agwai (retd) and former Head of Civil Service Alhaji Mahmud Yayal. This initiative is part of efforts to strengthen collaboration against insecurity in the region, which has faced increased attacks from bandits and terrorists.

The board comprises retired military officers and senior public servants from 19 northern states, including representatives from Sokoto, Jigawa, Taraba, Borno, Plateau, Niger, Kogi, and others. The governors resolved to contribute 1 billion naira monthly for 12 months to finance the trust fund, which aims to mobilize resources and enhance intelligence sharing to combat banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and cattle rustling.

The initiative is designed to complement federal security efforts and provide a credible platform for supporting security operations across northern Nigeria.
