Yoruba Leaders Urge Tinubu to Address Poverty Alleviation

The Association of Yoruba Obas and Leaders in the 19 Northern States and the FCT, led by chairman Alhaji Murtala Adeleke, called on President Bola Tinubu to intensify poverty alleviation efforts across Nigeria. During a quarterly meeting in Abuja on Saturday, Adeleke acknowledged that economic reforms require patience but urged the Federal Government to ensure that the benefits of democracy reach citizens at the grassroots level.

He pointed out that local government administrations have not fulfilled their statutory responsibilities despite recent financial autonomy. The association expressed support for the Tinubu administration, citing improvements in security, education, fuel supply, and the economy over the past three years.

Adeleke highlighted notable security improvements, including successful rescue operations in Kwara, Niger, and Borno states. He praised the administration's student financing initiatives and the reduction of strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

Additionally, he noted the growth of the capital market and the easing of fuel supply issues in the North.
