Northern Youths Demand Impeachment of Speaker Abbas

The Arewa Youth Assembly has called for the impeachment of House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, accusing him of abusing his position to promote sectional interests, particularly favoring Kaduna State and Zaria. The group has urged members of the House of Representatives to initiate impeachment proceedings and has requested that the office of the Speaker be zoned to the South to ensure fair representation and balance in the nation.

They expressed concerns that Abbas's concentration of federal appointments in specific areas has created political imbalances and deepened feelings of exclusion among various communities. The assembly emphasized the need for equitable power distribution to restore confidence in democratic institutions.

They also warned that their future support for the APC could be uncertain if Abbas remains in office without demonstrating political loyalty and inclusivity. The group has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to scrutinize the actions of the Speaker, stating that unchecked actions could harm national harmony and threaten the party's chances in the 2027 elections.
