Northern Youths Demand Umahi's Suspension Over Death

The Northern Youth Council Nigeria (NYCN) has called for the immediate suspension of Minister Dave Umahi in light of the death of 26-year-old physiotherapist Mari Habila. The council issued a statement on Thursday, signed by its national president, Comrade Isah Abubakar, warning of nationwide protests if the federal government fails to act within seven days.

They are demanding that Umahi step aside to allow for an impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding Habila's death. The council has urged the Nigeria Police Force to invite Umahi for questioning and has called for an independent autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The statement expressed deep concern over the circumstances of Habila's death, which was described as suspicious, and emphasized the need for a thorough and transparent investigation. The NYCN plans to mobilize protests in major public spaces across Abuja, Kaduna, and Ebonyi State until Umahi resigns or is removed.
