Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, an apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, responded to calls for the resignation of Minister David Umahi over the death of Mari Habila, which they described as tragic and deserving of sympathy. Dr.

Ezechi Chukwu, the organization's public secretary, issued a statement on Friday in Enugu, urging for a thorough, transparent, and professional investigation into Habila's death. Chukwu expressed condolences to the deceased's family, friends, and colleagues, and called for Nigerians to remain calm and avoid prejudicial comments that could create unnecessary public tension.

He warned against politicizing the incident, stressing that the loss of human life should not be used to advance political interests. Ohanaeze commended Umahi for calling for a comprehensive forensic autopsy and a full investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding Habila's death.

Chukwu insisted that demands for Umahi's resignation were unwarranted, emphasizing that the mere occurrence of a death does not establish culpability.
