Northwest Governors’ Forum Unveils Development Framework at UNGA81

The Northwest Governors’ Forum, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is set to present the Northwest Peace, Security and Development Framework (2026–2030) at a high-level side event during UNGA81 in New York on September 21. The event, themed “From Fragility to Opportunity: Locally Led Pathways to Peace, Resilience and Investment in Fragile Contexts,” aims to engage global development partners, financial institutions, investors, and private-sector leaders.
The framework seeks to unify the seven states of Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara in addressing interconnected security, economic, and development challenges while fostering resilience and inclusive growth. UNDP Nigeria Resident Representative Elsie Attafuah emphasized the need for investment in structural conditions for stability and economic growth, highlighting factors such as weak institutions and food insecurity that contribute to insecurity.
The initiative aims to connect the region's framework with development finance institutions and investors to mobilize resources for implementation.
