NPC Chairman Aminu Yusuf Dies After Prolonged Illness

Aminu Yusuf, the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), passed away at Nizamiya Hospital in Abuja following a prolonged illness. A source revealed that he fell ill five days prior while preparing for a trip to Rwanda and had been experiencing diabetes-related complications.

Yusuf had previously collapsed on multiple occasions, including during a press briefing on March 13, 2026, where he had difficulty breathing. He was appointed NPC Chairman by President Bola Tinubu in 2025 and was confirmed by the Senate, officially assuming office on December 3, 2025.

At the time of his swearing-in, he was identified as a 65-year-old. His remains were transported to Minna, Niger State, for burial.
