Ogun State to Pay Outstanding Severance to Ex-Councillors

The Ogun State Government has assured former councillors from the 20 Local Government Areas who served between 2021 and 2024 that their outstanding severance entitlements will be paid. Ganiyu Hamzat, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, stated in a telephone interview that Governor Dapo Abiodun has directed the payment process, which is currently in progress.

Hamzat mentioned that the government is working to resolve issues related to some councillors who have outstanding loans from banks, emphasizing the need to address these financial obligations before disbursing severance payments. On the same day, former councillors, represented by Abass Mohammed during a press conference in Ijebu-Ode, appealed to Governor Abiodun for the approval of their severance payments, highlighting the financial difficulties faced by many former political office holders.

The forum reported the loss of about 25 members and noted that some former officials are dealing with serious medical challenges.
