NPC Chairman Dr Aminu Yusuf Dies at 66 in Abuja

Dr Aminu Yusuf, the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), passed away at the age of 66 in Abuja on August 28, following a brief illness. His death was announced by the NPC's Director of Public Affairs, Mrs Adelayo Olurode.

Yusuf was appointed by President Bola Tinubu on December 3, 2025, and was the eighth substantive chairman of the commission. He was known for his dedication to national development and the generation of reliable demographic data, which are crucial for government planning and resource allocation.

Born on April 15, 1960, in Wushishi, Niger State, Yusuf had an extensive background in public service, including roles as Executive Chairman of Wushishi Local Government Area and a Member-elect of the Niger State House of Assembly. His leadership was marked by a Seven-Point Agenda aimed at enhancing the NPC's capacity.

The NPC expressed deep sorrow over his passing and extended condolences to President Tinubu, the Federal Government, and the people of Niger State.
